Sixteen Marion High students were among two hundred students from across the state of South Carolina who attended the 2010 Interact Convention at Richland Northeast (RNE) High School. All of them brought sleeping bags and slept on the gym floor. Convention activities included: a scavenger hunt, made cards to send to soldiers, cleaned the park and two empty lots, and fed the homeless. Activities also included the Gift of Life Banquet. The Gift of Life Group provides surgery for children who normally can not afford the care. The next child that the Gift of Life is scheduled to help is a 2 year old that needs open heart surgery. The Interact Clubs present raised a total of $10,000! Marion was the 3rd highest donor. Beaufort pledged $2000, Hilton Head Island High donated $1200, and MHS donated $1000. Marion raised those funds by selling pizza and cookie dough in September. MHS hosted the Interact Convention at MHS 4 years ago. It was considered a model convention while at RNE. MHS's theme then was SPACE- serving communities and people everywhere. MHS wrote letters to the soldiers as a community project, shared the idea with other clubs, and began a tradition with each convention group now writing letters to the soldiers.
